How do you make your pieces?
For the illustrated covers I draw directly onto them using posca pens! When working on commissioned ones I usually work digitally so I can edit more easily but all the details are hand drawn.
Where do you find your inspiration?
All over the place. I've always believed though that inspiration comes from a place of character than just visual stimulation so I love to watch artist documentaries - on anything and about anyone - as I feel there is much to learn about others struggles or passions to help understand your own, it can be validating or it can force you to question your own outlook and intentions. Sometimes learning how someone got to a piece of work is more important than seeing the final work itself. I'm also a tumblr addict and I do have a lust blog called superhattiehattie.tumblr.com for when I need an aesthetic kick. My work though mostly comes from trial and error - I like to try out and experiment with many different themes, visuals and techniques and then usually something sticks and develops organically.
What would be your dream commission?
My agent actually asked me earlier to send over a wish list so I'll put a few of those here - a sunglasses collection / a leather collection - bags jackets etc and I WOULD love to work with embroidery.
What are you working on at the moment?
There are a few things in the pipeline but at the moment I'm enjoying a rush of inspiration so i'm just enjoying working on my own ideas before any commissioned work kicks up again. There's a few commissioned covers coming out soon too which i'm excited to share.
How important is it to take risks?
It is entirely dependent on an individuals wants and needs. I work more on the belief that it isn't a risk - which to me is something to fear - but an attempt to capitalise an opportunity and grow upon it creatively, both in my work and my character.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Tongue in cheek
What’s your favourite piece of work you’ve done so far?
I think it would have to be the covers. My favourite one at the moment is the V Magazine black and white FKA Twigs one.
What does BABY-G mean to you?
Young and tough with a DGAF attitude.
